Pacos Ferreira vs Benfica – Betting Preview

Thursday night’s Primeira Liga match between top-of-the-table Benfica and bottom-dwelling Pacos de Ferreira takes place at the Estadio da Mata Real.

The hosts are attempting to avoid going 11 games without a victory at home, while the visitors have lost just once in their last 18 away games.

Pacos Ferreira Preview

Just under two weeks ago, Pacos de Ferreira finally earned their first league victory of the 2022–23 season with a 1-0 triumph away at Rio Ave. However, they were unable to win their second straight match as they were defeated 2-1 by Braga at home the previous weekend.

Vitinha had given the visitors the lead just before the hour mark, but Scottish midfielder Jordan Holsgrove equalised for the Beavers with a magnificent strike. However, the visitors seized all three points in the 90th minute thanks to a cool finish from Simon Banza.

After taking over on January 2, Cesar Peixoto has led Pacos de Ferreira to four points from his first three games, but his team is still firmly anchored at the bottom of the table and is 12 points away from safety halfway through the season.

After losing 3-2 to the Eagles in the rematch back in August, Pacos de Ferreira, who finished sixth in the Primeira Liga just two seasons ago, will be out for vengeance when they host Benfica.

Benfica Preview

Following a humiliating 3-0 loss away to Braga to close 2022, Benfica has since won three and drawn one of their first four matches of this year, including last weekend’s 3-0 triumph against Santa Clara.

Within the opening 16 minutes, both Fredrik Aursnes and Goncalo Ramos scored goals before January loan signing Ten minutes from time, Goncalo Guedes, who had been on the bench, scored on his second club debut, scoring the first goal for the Eagles since 2017 to secure the victory.

In the race for their first Primeira Liga championship in four years, Roger Schmidt’s team still holds a four-point advantage over second-place Braga, while Porto and Sporting Lisbon are further back in third and fourth place, respectively.

Benfica’s game against Pacos de Ferreira on Thursday is the second of five away games over a stretch of six games in all competitions, but the Eagles will be optimistic about their chances of winning on the road because they have won each of their last 11 encounters with the Beavers, winning by an average margin of two goals and scoring 32 goals in the process.
