Manchester City star Bernardo Silva has overtaken Cristiano Ronaldo to become the best Portuguese player in the Premier League, says Paul Merson. Bernardo Silva and Man City are in sensational form, with their 19 goals scored in the Premier League this season, making them the highest-scoring team in the competition. Pep Guardiola has welcomed the impact of Manchester City’s attacking midfielder Bernardo Silva, calling him the best player in the Premier League. Despite the speculation surrounding Bernardo Silva’s future, Pep Guardiola says Silva is fit to play in City’s every game in the Premier League.

During a chat with Darren Bent on talkSPORT, Jack Wilshere said Bernardo is currently Portugal‘s best player in the world, ahead of players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruben Dias and Diogo Jota. Darren Bent and Jack Wilshere have been debating over talkSPORT Drive over who is Portugal’s best in English football. Still, he disagreed with Wilshere and claimed Cristiano Ronaldo was the best Portuguese player playing his trade in England. Liverpool fans, of course, would not agree with Pep Guardiola on either claiming Bernardo Silva was better than van Dijk two seasons ago or claiming that he is currently better than Mohamed Salah.

Silva is not complaining, but having played in the Premier League for five years and winning four titles, he checks out each year’s Premier League Team of the Year, knowing that Man City was never a team with more players. As Silva said, there are times in football when we have those crazy moments when you control a game and are knocked out of the UCL by Real Madrid. Then the game we are playing very badly, and probably should not have won, in 10 minutes, we turn that around and win the Premier League.

Silva noted it was very exhausting and intense sometimes playing Pep Guardiola’s way, but he is also made Man City’s squad some of the best. Man City was scintillating, pulling the home fans around the pitch, keeping them pinned back inside their half, finding gaps in their defence before Bernardo showed the levels required of Jack Grealish to be a core member of this great side. In the recent news where Silva was rumoured to move away from the Etihad and join Barcelona, Pep said it would be challenging for City to get a replacement if this move happens.

In 2017, Silva was transferred from AS Monaco to the Etihad Stadium. Since then, he has won 11 trophies, including four Premier League in the last five years. Silva has scored 31 goals for City in the Premier League till now.
